Widow Sues Hospital Over Husband's Death

A woman who says her 86-year-old husband died after receiving the wrong medication issuing Oak Hill Hospital in Spring Hill.

Henry Wilkins had seizures, convulsions and a heart attack before he died in 2007, according to the wrongful death lawsuit filed  on Friday in the Fifth Judicial Circuit Court in Hernando County. Wilkens was prescribed three medications — morphine, narcan and bupivicane — that were intended for another patient, the lawsuit states. A nurse and a hospital pharmacist are also named in the lawsuit.

"This was a tragedy that could have been avoided with simple precautions," said Tampa attorney Jim Freeman, who represents Wilkins' family.An Oak Hill Hospital spokesman declined to comment today but said he will speak about the lawsuit on Wednesday.Wilkins' widow, Eleanor, is suing for damages in excess of $15,000.
