The July 26 edition of the National Law Journal named the Wilkes & McHugh P.A. firm to its “Plaintiff’s Hot List” of the top 20 plaintiff firms in the nation. The firm, based in Tampa, Fla., has an office in Little Rock. According to journal’s profile of the firm, Wilkes & McHugh has earned a total of $64 million in verdicts in the past two years. It has 60 attorneys in seven states, including 12 attorneys in Little Rock. The firm primarily represents nursing home residents. “Wilkes & McHugh has carved out a niche and a name for itself … It has pioneered use of … residents' rights law to sue for neglect, as a separate cause of action beyond simple negligence,” the journal said. “Its success has been noticed by other firms, which have followed its lead.” Among its most famous cases was its 2001 case in which it won a $78 million verdict in a negligence suit against Advocat, a national nursing home chain with a home in Mena. It was the largest such result in Arkansas history. Overseeing the case in Arkansas was Brian Reddick, the managing attorney of the Wilkes & McHugh Little Rock office.
